Dawn soon approached, each of us waking up one by one. We were sheltered, yes. But we had little time for breaks, little time for rest, little time to eat. Being pushed to our absolute limits. Every single day. A morbid cycle.

Find a way to feel alive.

The time struck XX:50. Ten minute ping. CautionaryShot trotted over to the meetup spot in the upper pumpkin patch. Already, there were quite a few people there. Some were sitting and talking to each other while others were more far away. Those who stayed farther apart had what was called ‘touch discomfort’ or ‘cover trigger’. CautionaryShot could never really understand those who had them but she didn’t judge. Instead she took a spot in front of one of the pumpkins near the rest of the group.

She looked down at her uniform, trying to relieve the itchiness that came from the cheap fabric. Winter was approaching and yet they wore the same uniforms year round. Other than a scarf you could buy from the shop, there was no care for comfort here. CautionaryShot glanced at the host of the event, talking with who she denied to be her favorite but yet everyone knew.

She shook her head, focusing on something else. That was until she heard hoovesteps from behind her. She trained herself to recognize the footsteps of anyone who came close. This was for sure her best friend, FadedGaze. the very person who introduced her to this place. But ever so recently things have seemed off about her… But everyone here always seemed off, she's no different. No more to lose than anyone else here.

“Faded,” CautionaryShot called, “I know it's you, you know? Your hoovesteps are easier to distinguish than this entire regiment.” She pulled off a smile, as if talking to this exact ‘friend’ of hers didn't cause her to spiral mere hours before the event. CautionaryShot always followed the rules and so did FadedGaze. But the moment Caution began to question a single thing… she was silenced. By no other than her friend.

“So.. How was this morning? I checked my points on the leaderboard and saw that I'm ranking up for the next promotion! I checked yours as well… you seem to be behind. What happened? It can’t be that stupid little thing of yours from earlier, can it?” FadedGaze smirked, sitting next to Caution.

CautionaryShot’s smile faltered for a short moment, looking away. “No, No. Not at all, I've just been having trouble adjusting to new members… that's all.” Caution knew she lied, one of the biggest rules in this regiment was to be honest. But she would rather break one rule than break a rule nobody speaks of.

“Right… Anyways, I'll talk to you more after the event is over. Alright?”

“Alright.”

It was time to line up. Today there was no need for rank order, so instead of fighting for the front Caution just took her place at the very back. Better not to be seen. Or cared about. This event was a building patrol, so they were heading straight for party island. As they walked she noticed another regiment from afar, except they had darker colored uniforms and they were known as ‘the scary’ or ‘the evil’ ones. There seemed to have been no attention on her from her choice in line so she carefully drifted away from the group to watch this regiment that had always been seen as the ‘bad guys’.
